Fake Christmas tree or Real Christmas Tree

The benefits of a fake Christmas tree are that they aren’t as messy and they last years. The benefits of a real Christmas tree are they are more traditional and they look better sometimes. But which is better? The cons of real ones are that they need to be feed water and they can make a mess. The cons of fake ones are that they don’t smell as good. What do you prefer? I’m not sure what I do. All I know is that my cat attacks my fake one a lot.

Who gets better grades?

Who gets better grades? Boys or girls? Well this depends on how smart either of them actually are. Typically though, from the looks of it, it seems girls seem to get better grades. This is not for certain, but it is just from glancing over the subject. I usually never see girls get terrible, terrible grades. They usually do pretty good from the looks of it. This is all speculation. So who does get better grades? I don’t think it matters if they are boys or girls; smart people get good grades.

If a tomato is a fruit is ketchup a smoothie?

Everyone will always talk about the heated debate: “Is a tomato a fruit or vegetable?” So what is the answer? No one is quite sure, but if the tomato is indeed a fruit, does that make ketchup technically a smoothie? Well, a smoothie is a blend of ice and fruit. Ketchup is a blend of tomatoes, vinegar and other ingredients. That doesn’t sound like an iced fruit drink. But ketchup is sort of blended tomatoes so I guess it is in some case. What do you think?

My favorite kinds of music

My favorite kinds of music include rock, hard rock, metal, and electric rock. Basically if there’s any beat that is intense or sounds good in general, I’m bound to like it. My favorite bands / musicians include: Breaking Benjamin, Blue Stahli, Red, Green Day, Rise Against, Skillet, and my favorite Three Days Grace. If you didn’t know, Red and Skillet are Christian Bands but they don’t seem like it. I’m not that religious I just like them since they make good music over all. Blue Stahli is a one man band. I think he is a DJ or something. Three Days Grace is probably my favorite due to all their variety from songs that get you pumped up, to songs that are emotional. Other than that, that’s the kind of music I like. I’m not that into pop or rap.

Are cell phones really needed in school?

Think about it. Why exactly do we need Cell phones during school hours? If there is anything that important, you would be called through the school phones anyway. Do we really need cell phones in school? Here are the pros and cons.

First off, the pros. It would maybe be simpler to text your family quick instead of calling them. That way you wouldn’t take up much time. Another pro would be using internet for quick research if permitted.

But here are the bad parts; the cons. If you could text in school, you’d probably always text to your friends and be distracted. Also, the con with internet access would be cheating.

So in the end, do we really need cell phones in school? I don’t think it’s necessary.

Why I don't want to write about twilight

I don't want to write about twilight because I don't know anything about it. All I know is that there is that Bella meets Edward who is a vampire that sparkles in the sunlight. There's also Jacob who is a were wolf and always has it shirt off for some reason. I only know that Edward and Jacob are "rivals" I suppose. This why I don't want to write about twilight. I know nothing about it and am not really interested in it. It seems like a major "chick flick."

The Lottery; a short story with a crazy twist.

The Lottery

The Lottery is quite an interesting short story. While personally I didn’t understand exactly what was going on in the beginning, the end was more supporting and understanding. While maybe I didn’t understand at first, there were for sure enough details to make me see this was a pretty decent short story.

The story takes place in the middle of June. The introduction has lots of details and can draw a picture in your mind. Although, I wish it told what year it was. I wasn’t exactly sure if this was in the 1900’s or more modern times like the 1940’s-1990. Perhaps it is suppose to be mysterious. It went on to talk about a whole village gathering up for a lottery that apparently had been going on for a long, long time.

Not much else seems to happen until multiple people were drawn up to the stage. I found it slightly confusing but it seemed like they would call multiple people, ask them if they were could attend the lottery. They ask about their family. And then they un-fold a paper and someone else is chosen. But this isn’t a lottery to win money and prizes. It turns out that it is a lottery to control population. I found this a crazy twist to the story and made the beginning make a lot more sense.

In the end, the “winner” got pelted with stones. That seems like a very cruel way to control population. Over all, the lottery was a pretty decent short story. Its ending was fairly overwhelming and beginning was full of detail and will get you into the story quickly. My only complaint would be the confusion at the beginning.

Why are you proud of this country?

Author's Note: I wrote this essay to explain what makes America a great country.

I am proud of this country because of all the freedom we have and all the people that fought to give it to us. If it wasn’t for all who fought for us, we wouldn’t be able to say what we want, do what we want, or travel where we want. I am proud of this country because of freedom and justice.

This country has, for the most part, always been based on freedom. People from all over, especially Europe, came to “The New World” for a new life of freedom. They could come here are practice whatever religion they wanted. Later on when America was becoming more of its own country, instead of having a Royalty running the country, they decided to have presidents instead. Not only that, but people got to have a say in who is president. Later on we grew more and more ways of freedom.

Another great thing about our country is we help other people. If some country asks for help, we will usually accept the request. Whether it would be with money donations for disasters, or military help, sometimes it might even seem we help other people more than ourselves. We are incredibly generous people.

Another great thing to be proud of this country for? Well how about rights for other people? Before, men were the only people aloud to vote. But later on, women won the right to be treated just like men. In some countries, women aren’t included as much.  Also, before black people weren’t treated as fairly as now. But of course, afterwards Martin Luther King Jr. helped stop this nonsense.

So in the end, why are you proud of your country? Well, there are many reasons to be proud. Whether it’s all the many war veterans that helped us keep our freedom, or the freedom itself, all I know is to be proud of our justice and freedom.

Mammals are the Strangest Animals on Earth

Author's Note: I chose to write this essay on mammals because I think they are the strangest.

As the sun goes down and the moon comes up, bats swarm go around in groups flying over the night sky. Somewhere in Australia, a platypus lays an egg. Why is it that while these animals are both mammals, they still are able to do these things? What if we could do such things? One thing is for sure, mammals are some of the strangest on kinds of animals on our planet.

Mammals are definitely interesting animals. From the swimming fish-like dolphin or the long neck giraffe, mammals seem to have quite a weird collection of creatures. When you think of a mammal, odds are you are first going to think of a cat or a dog. You probably aren’t going to think of a platypus or a dolphin.

People could disagree that mammals aren’t the strangest group of animals; which is a valid discussion since there are animals such as the jellyfish or the sponge or even the iguana. But think about animals like the Kangaroo which is like a mix of a Deer and rabbit with a pouch. The kangaroo puts its baby or “Joey” in its pouch to carry it around.  Does your jellyfish have that? How about the elephant? The gigantic mammal with a long trunk? Giraffe? Moose? How about an aardvark? I don’t think your sponges have any of that!

So if you still think that the mammals aren’t the weirdest kinds of creatures on earth, I don’t know what else to tell you. We have a huge variety that’s for sure. The world’s most strange pair of animals definitely are mammals.
